Kirk E. Anderson, Jürgen Gadau, Brendon M. Mott, Robert A. Johnson, Annette Altamirano, Christoph Strehl, and Jennifer H. Fewell. 2006. Distribution and evolution of genetic caste determination in Pogonomyrmex seed-harvester ants. Ecology 87:2171–2184.

Appendix A. Location data (state, county, locale) and sample size for specimens of Pogonomyrmex barbatus and P. rugosus used for allozyme data.

Sample size is presented as number of workers (number of colonies). The italicized second line at several locations gives sample size for alate queens from these same colonies. Bold text denotes the six sympatric locations at which we collected and analyzed populations of both nominal morphospecies. The two Mexico populations (MX1-MX2) of P. barbatus were used only for mtDNA analyses. Location numbers correspond to data shown in all figures, tables, and appendices. Voucher specimens are deposited in the collections of Kirk E. Anderson, Robert A. Johnson, and the Bohart Museum, University of California, Davis, California, USA.
